On December 3, 2025, the President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, held a meeting with the leadership of the Agency for Science and Higher Education (AZVO) to mark the 20th anniversary of the Agency, a key national institution responsible for quality assurance in higher education and science.
AZVO Director Prof. Danijela Horvatek Tomić presented to the President the scope and role of the Agency, which, as an independent, public, and internationally recognized institution, is responsible for ensuring quality in the science and higher education system in Croatia. This includes conducting external evaluations of universities, study programs, and research institutes; recognition and evaluation of foreign higher education qualifications; acquiring and expanding knowledge and research on the quality assurance system in higher education, scientific, and artistic activities in Croatia; providing training; collecting and processing data on higher education, scientific and artistic activities; and providing information on admission requirements and consolidating data on applicants’ eligibility for higher education institutions.
The meeting also addressed the current state of Croatian higher education, as well as challenges and priorities for further strengthening the quality assurance system.
In addition to Director Prof. Horvatek Tomić, the AZVO delegation included Deputy Director Dr. Irena Petrušić and Assistant Directors Dr. Mia Đikić and Marina Grubišić. President Milanović was accompanied by his Advisor for Education, Jadranka Žarković.
