Pursuant to the Act on Quality Assurance in Higher Education and Science (OG 151/2022), the Accreditation Council of the Agency for Science and Higher Education appoints a Follow-up Committee for conducting the follow-up procedure.
Follow-up of doctoral study programmes
In case a higher education institution was issued a confirmation for performing a part of activity the follow up will include the following steps:
- within six months after receiving the confirmation, the re-accredited higher education institution adopts an action plan aimed at quality improvement and submits it to the Agency,
- once a year, the re-accredited higher education institution submits a report to the Agency on the implementation of the action plan.
In case a higher education institution was issued a letter of expectation in the procedure of re-accreditation, the Agency recommends one of the following in the follow-up procedure:
- Issuing a confirmation that the requirements for performing activity or part of activity have been met,
- Denying a license for performing activity or part of activity.
Within its report on removing deficiencies identified in the re-accreditation procedure, the higher education institution follows the recommendations of the expert panel in the re-accreditation procedure, describes the changes made on the basis of these recommendations, and provides supporting evidence thereof (e.g. a decision on changes and amendments to a study programme, a decision that regulates the issue of a supervisor being a member of the committee for thesis and thesis proposal defence committee, a decision on the appointment of a committee for monitoring the work of supervisors, ordinances and decisions showing changes and amendments to doctoral programmes, a list of papers/projects, etc.)

The higher education institution which received a confirmation on the fulfilment of requirements in the re-accreditation procedure is to adopt a five-year action plan with the aim of improving the quality in accordance with the recommendations of the expert panel and submit it to the Agency for Science and Higher Education (ASHE) and submit a report on the implementation of the action plan to ASHE two years after.
The higher education institution which received a letter of expectation in the re-accreditation procedure should adopt an action plan with the aim of improving the quality in accordance with the recommendations of the expert panel and each year submit a report on the implementation of the action plan to ASHE. Before the expiry of the letter of expectation, the higher education institution has to submit a report on the elimination of deficiencies.
