Re-accreditation of scientific organisations entered in the Register of Scientific Organisations is carried out by the Agency for Science and Higher Education (hereinafter referred to as the Agency) on official duty, pursuant to Article 22 of the Act on Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education (OG 45/09; hereinafter referred to as the Act), Ordinance on Conditions for Issuing Licence for Scientific Activity, Conditions for Re-Accreditation of Scientific Organisations and Content of Licence (OG 83/10; hereinafter referred to as the Ordinance) and the Ordinance on the Content of Licence and Conditions for Issuing Licence for Performing Higher Education Activity, Carrying out a Study Programme and Re-accreditation of Higher Education Institutions (OG 24/10), by applying European and international best practices. 

Re-accreditation of scientific organisations in the higher education system  

Re-accreditation of universities and their constituent units and higher education institutions entered in the Register of Scientific Organisations as of 2011/2012 is carried out in accordance with the Procedure for Re-accreditation of Higher Education Institutions – revised text of 25th September 2012 (CLASS: 003-08/11-02/0007, REFERENCE NUMBER: 355-01-12-12). Universities and their constituent units may start carrying out university studies based on the licence for scientific activity (and after their entry in the Register) for their respective fields and the fields relevant to the university studies they conduct.Re-accreditation of scientific activities of higher education institutions is carried out as a unified procedure of re-accreditation of scientific and higher education activities.

Re-accreditation of public scientific institutes is carried out in accordance with the Procedure for Re-accreditation of Public Scientific Institutes – revised text of 10th March 2014 (CLASS: 640-02/12-02/0002, REFERENCE NUMBER: 355-01-14-6).

Re-accreditation of scientific organisations outside the system of higher education and public scientific institutes

Pursuant to the provision of Article 22 Paragraph (1) of the Act, scientific organisations entered in the Register of Scientific Organisations besides universities and their constituent units, higher education institutions and public scientific institutes, have to undergo a periodical accreditation every five years. These are scientific organisations founded by the Republic of Croatia, private scientific organisations and other legal entities entered in the Register of Scientific Organisations. The re-accreditation procedure is carried out in order to determine whether the conditions for continued scientific activity have been met, which is a prerequisite for continued financing from the state budget.
