At its 26th session, Steering Committee of the European Regional Economic Forum Network (EREF) selected Croatian Agency for Science and Higher Education as an example of good practice in implementing the system of quality assurance in science and higher education.

Director of the Agency for Science and Higher Education prof. Jasmina Havranek, PhD was asked to present Croatian experience in building the system of external quality assurance in science and higher education at the international conferences in Gorizia, Italy on 27 May 2010 and Nova Gorica, Slovenia on 7-8 June 2010. Issues discussed at the conferences will be analysis of the higher education reform and development of human capital in Europe, i.e. reaching global competitiveness.

European Regional Economic Forum Network is dedicated to strengthening European knowledge-based economy, in line with new paradigm of sustainable development. As emphasized in EREF, although Europe has been the main driver of scientific and technological progress for centuries, the European Union today should encourage member states to activate their innovative potential and knowledge-based competitiveness.

This fact, combined with the wealth of information, knowledge and inspirational examples of good practice, EREF tries to create the necessary synergy and encourage exchange of information among all stakeholders and public policymakers in order to strengthen European knowledge-based economy.

Since dissemination of good practice is one of the most important functions of EREF Network, examples presented at the upcoming conferences, among them the one from the Agency for Science and Higher Education, will be published in the Wall Street Journal Europe.
