A public discussion on academic ranking organised by the Association for the Development of Higher Education “Universitas” was held on 14 March 2019 at the Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Rijeka. Dr. Irena Petrušić from the Agency for Science and Higher Education participated in the discussion as a guest.
Academic ranking is a very popular and practical way to present higher education institutions’ quality, but in order to use it properly, it is important to keep in mind what ranking is, how it works, what does it measure and most importantly, what are its limitations. The aim of the presentation was to provide an overview of the current status and the possibilities of Croatian higher education institutions from the perspective of world-renowned scales, but also taking into consideration the European and national higher education context.
Both speakers underlined the importance of the Croatian universities’ participation in U-Multirank ranking, which includes a much larger scope of categories and indicators and takes into consideration all the activities of a university in a more efficient way.
