In 2014, a thematic evaluation of doctoral studies in Croatia was performed. The findings of the Expert Panels conducting the thematic evaluation of doctoral studies pointed to the need to reflect on the doctoral level of education in the Republic of Croatia, perhaps even to reform it. Considering the shortcomings identified during the thematic evaluation, the re-accreditation sought to cover the parts of university activities which directly contribute to the quality of doctoral education, which is one of the most important roles of higher education.
